My Journey

Rose Jones is a lifelong advocate for children and families impacted by trauma, addiction, and systemic inequities. With formal training in trauma resolution and years of hands-on experience working with youth who often felt invisible or forgotten, she has helped countless teens rebuild their sense of self-worth, stay engaged in school, and remain safely at home rather than entering the judicial system. Rose is a proud graduate of University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where she completed her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. A published novelist, she authored Mildred the Bird Lady (2021), Mildred’s Legacy (2022), and many more to come. The Mildred Series is currently in Los Angeles in the process of becoming a movie. Mildred’s legacy is a story centered on educational redemption for children cast aside by society, reflecting her deeply held belief in second chances and inclusive learning environments.

Rose’s commitment to educational equity is profoundly shaped by the legacy of her late aunt, Pamela Planker, a Deaf educator whose career spanned classrooms across the country and even the Saudi Arabian consulate. Growing up assisting her aunt, Rose witnessed firsthand both the brilliance and the barriers experienced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing students and teachers from inadequate learning and teaching conditions to community stigma and systemic neglect. Rose later became her aunt’s guardian after Pamela experienced a traumatic brain injury and cared for her until her passing in 2023. Joining Sign Language Academy of Cape Fear, is for Rose, a continuation of that legacy calling to ensure a child is hidden, marginalized, or denied access to language and learning. With deep community roots, unwavering compassion, and a lifetime devoted to service she brings strength, resilience, and a powerful advocacy spirit to the Academy.

Rose is also a dedicated supporter of Honor Flight of Cape Fear, having served as a guardian accompanying veterans on missions to Washington, D.C., and an active supporter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) Cape Fear. Outside her work, Rose enjoys home renovation projects, motorcycle riding, and supporting individuals on their recovery journeys.
