Hello, my name is Mike Lupo, and I am the Director of the Sign Language Academy of Cape Fear. We are excited to announce that our new K–8 school will open soon in Wilmington, North Carolina, with a planned opening in late fall or early 2027. We will provide updates and any changes. Our school will serve students from Wilmington and surrounding counties, including New Hanover, Pender, Onslow, Brunswick, Duplin, Bladen, and Sampson counties.
The Sign Language Academy of Cape Fear will provide a bilingual, language-rich learning environment in American Sign Language and English. Our approach will specialize in visual learning, hands-on activities, and real-life experiences that help students grow academically, socially, and personally.
We will welcome all students, including Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students, in an inclusive environment where every child can learn, communicate, and thrive. The school will operate on a year-round calendar to support consistent learning and continued student progress.
Although we are a tuition-based school, state scholarships and other funding opportunities may be available to help eligible students attend at little or no cost. If you would like more information or want to learn more about our school, please contact us. Afternoons open the door to curiosity, discovery, and hands-on experiences. Students take their learning beyond the traditional classroom through outdoor exploration, projects, STEM/STEAM, the arts, and real-world experiences.
